Showcase
March 2, 2022 "REE-bearing deep sea mud" is on display!
"REE-bearing deep sea mud" is on display in the ore section on the first floor of the exhibition room.
This specimen was collected in the KM19-E02C voyage ( February 17-27, 2019 ) of the seafloor research vessel KAIMEI.
JAMSTEC has successfully collected a large amount of REE-bearing mud in the deep sea using a power grab.
The deposits contain high concentrations of REE, which are essential for high-tech industries.
Please also see the REE metals on display in the "Periodic Table of Elements" on the third floor.
